Readers Question: Where Should I Start My Internet Marketing Business

This question made me thinking for some time in order to remember how I started my Internet marketing business. The one thing is for sure, I was very overwhelmed by the information volumes….. well, ok, this will be the subject for some of the future posts. Now, let’s get the answer.

The full question was like this:

Where should I start my Internet marketing business? Should I build a website, blog or squeeze page?

From the second part of the question, I can understand that she knows something about this business already. Maybe she has read some free reports or guides, as usually people do not know anything about squeeze pages.

Furthermore, I can assume that she knows the niche already. However, if it is not a case, then for sure the first step in her Internet marketing business building would be a niche research. This is what I learned from, in my opinion, the best online marketer – Eben Pagan, is that you cannot go after some niche. The niche is something, which you must discover in interaction with people.

So, the first step would be to talk to people about the subject you are mostly interested in. What you are looking for is a real need to solve some problem or satisfied a strong desire.

Ok, the next step would be hard keyword research. You need to find an answer, whether people are actually looking for your solution online.

Sometimes, we have some problems, but we do not look for the solution online – we do it offline and locally. So, you need to make sure, that your niche is something that people are intensively looking online.

The next step would be a list building. Everybody who has been in Internet marketing business for sometime will tell you that it is crucial to have a strong lead base related to your niche. There are around 20 different and most commonly used methods how to build a list, so you should focus on that.

So, now that you have decided to build a list, and you get some knowledge about it, you can set up a blog and squeeze page.

Here is some technical stuff.

From my experience, the best way is to build a squeeze page on your domain name and then set up a WordPress blog on the same domain, but in a special directory. For example:

www.YourDomain.com – this would be your squeeze page

www.YourDomain.com/blog/ – this would be your blog.

This structure will increase your ability to generate web traffic from multiple resources and it is extremely important especially in the beginning.

Do some research online and find all the e-books, reports and blog posts about niche research. Study this subject.

The next step would be a keyword research. Once again, master this subject. Read blog post, look for information in forums and find some e-books or e-courses. You do not need to buy anything in order to learn this, just some persistence and dedication.

Now, you should start to build a list or targeted lead base. Once again, the same strategy here. Do some research and find information how you can build a list and master this subject.

The next step would be to build a squeeze page and WordPress blog You will find zillion free stuff online how you can easily build a squeeze page with a program like NVU or any other free HTML editor. Spend some time with this, learn how to do that. It is really not so difficult.

And the last step related to this Internet marketing business question would be web traffic generation. Well, this is one of the most time consuming parts, as it involves everything. However, you should start by one traffic generation techniques and master it. Learn about article or pay per click marketing. Just take one thing and master it.

If you will follow these steps and will spend at least 5 days to each of it, your Internet marketing business will be well ahead of 90 percent of online marketers.
